Jump Starting Your Career: How Career Quest Learning Centers Can Help

The Career Quest Learning Centers Jump Start program is in full swing, offering students and their friends the chance to jump start their education and their careers. The program teaches about computers, budgets and careers, and also gives new Career Quest Learning Centers students the opportunity to get to know their classmates.

“Some of our students have been out of school for a while,” said Lansing Campus President Melissa Soderberg. “The Jump Start program gives them a chance to meet and get to know their fellow students before classes actually start.”

According to Melissa, it also gives them some real world skills they can take into the classroom and out into the world. The Jump Start classes are conveniently offered mornings and evenings at the beginning of each term. Melissa says they have been very well-attended and she encourages students to bring along their friends, even if they are not enrolled at Career Quest Learning Centers.

“All our Jump Start classes are open to the public,” said Melissa, “but we really encourage our enrolling students to participate.”

The classes have three focus areas: computers, budgets and careers.

The computer classes are designed for students who are unfamiliar with computers.

“We want to help our students be as comfortable with technology as possible,” said Melissa. “This class is designed to give them the basics to ease their transition back into school and into the modern classroom.”

The class on budgeting offers hands-on money management tips, but also teaches students how to create individual budgets and some tricks they can use to save money. It introduces them to the importance of credit scores and teaches them how they can improve theirs.

The career-focused classes help new students truly plan for their future careers, offering tips on job searches, interview techniques, resumes and cover letters.

“We also like to concentrate on the soft skills that will be a good supplement to what they will learn in their individual programs,” said Melissa.

The Jump Start program is just one more way that Career Quest Learning Centers train students to become good employees. We offer career training programs in business, healthcare and information technology and also teach real-world skills that take our students far beyond the classroom.
