The 3 Steps You Need to Take to Become a CNA

Become a CNA

If you want to become a CNA, you’ll first need to decide if a career as a certified nursing assistant is right for you. Do you like helping others? Have you always dreamed of a career in healthcare? Then you’re halfway there. Follow these 3 steps to train to become a CNA in as little as three weeks.

1)      Choose an accredited program like the Certified Nurse Aide program at Career Quest Learning Centers. We’ll teach you the skills you need to become an important member of the healthcare team. You’ll learn about basic nursing and personal care. We’ll teach you how to assist patients and health facility residents, while helping them to attain and maintain their functional independence. We’ll also help you understand how to assess your patients’ health and well-being and introduce you to patients’ rights as governed by U.S. law.

2)      Take and pass your certification exam so you can work as a Certified Nurse’s Aide in Michigan. The exam will assess your knowledge and competency to be a CNA. You will be tested on a wide range of topics to make certain you can perform your job well including how to take vitals, assist injured, burned or bleeding residents, how to help someone who is having a seizure or is unconscious, and how to perform the Heimlich maneuver. You’ll also need to know about proper patient care and sanitation.

3)      Find your first job. Once you’re trained as a CNA, you could work with a diverse patient population in a variety of settings as a Certified Nurse Aide, Home Health Aide or Direct Care Worker. Choose a specialty and a setting that works for you. As you gain more knowledge and experience, you may also decide to look at other careers in healthcare. Would you like to become a Medical Assistant or nurse someday? Being a CNA introduces you to a world of possibilities!
