Career Quest Supporting South Side Community Coalition Back to School Health Fair

Career Quest Learning Center is participating in the Back to School Health Fair sponsored by the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Theta Rho Zeta Chapter, in partnership with the South Side Community Coalition. The health fair, which is taking place on Saturday, July 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at 2101 W. Holmes Road, will offer sports physicals, high blood pressure screening, food & nutrition education, Strong Start/Healthy Start, senior legal services, as well as Medicaid & Ingham Health Plan enrollment.

The student sports physicals (available for students ages 9 to 18) are by appointment only, and can be scheduled by contacting Ms. Yolanda at (517) 394-3138. A parent or guardian must be present during the time of the sports physical.

“We’ll have nearly a dozen medical assistant and billing/coding students with us at the event, ready and willing to share their expertise throughout the day,” said Nichole Rolfe, Career Quest program faculty supervisor. “This health fair allows us to help the community we serve, while also giving our students hands-on healthcare experience.”

In addition to CQLC, these community organizations will also be participating: Michigan Abstinence Program, Sickle Cell Disease Association, Physicians Health Plan, Ingham County – MSU Extension, Ingham County Health Department and Sixty Plus, Inc. Elder Law Clinic.

SUCCESS STORY

“This program is good because it’s daily, it doesn’t give you time for slack. There is also lots of hands-on help, you’re not just left to do it all on your own. I was in college before and it just didn’t work out. Career Quest worked for me.”

SUCCESS STORY

“I tried community college and it was not for me; I was just overwhelmed. I learn better in small groups. At Career Quest, it was almost like a family. Everyone’s willing to help one another and the teachers are awesome. I’ll be sad to leave!”
