Our Career Fair: Success for Students and Employers

Career Fair at Career Quest Learning Centers

The Career Quest Learning Centers campuses have been a bustle of activity in the last couple of weeks, as both Lansing and Jackson hosted Career Fairs for our students and the general public. Jackson had a great turnout on October 12th, as did Lansing on the 18th.

“We do this for our own students,” said Lansing Campus President Melissa Soderberg “but also for those beyond our campuses. We feel it’s important to help the community work and connecting employers to potential employees is one way we can do our part.”

Among the employers that came to our campuses were:

·         Arcadia Home Care and Staffing

·         Brookdale Meridian

·         Eaton County Health and Rehabilitation Services

·         Excel Staffing

·         Farmers State Bank

·         Holt Senior Care & Rehab

·         LoveJoy Rehabilitation Center

·         Medilodge of Lansing

·         McLaren Greater Lansing

·         Meijer

·         Optimal Medical Staffing

·         Rocket Fuel, Inc.

·         Sensations Memory Care

·         Sparrow Health System

·         Spartan Healthcare

Jackson Campus Manager Sara Joblonski said it was great to see the enthusiasm with which the students greeted all the area employers. She said they were eager and willing to learn just what they needed to do to hone their soft skills and turn from students, to graduates, to employees.

“These events allow them to view things from the employer’s point of view,” said Sara. “They were able to get a lot of information that helps them better prepare for what they’ll encounter when it comes time for their job search.”

Sara said that the attendees were able to get a glimpse of the kinds of jobs that could be available to them and also get feedback from actual employers about how they were presenting themselves.

“It’s just all more believable when our students see actual employers,” said Sara. “They look at them and think, ‘wow, they really would hire someone like me.’”

The Career Fair was also an opportunity for students to have their resumes looked at with a critical eye and to get an idea on what they should focus to polish up their professional image. Some of them even connected to possible externships.
