Speakers Wow Career Quest Students

Speaker from Chase speaks at Career Quest Learning Centers

 

Career Quest Learning Centers now offers professional speaker events as part of our career preparedness endeavors—and they’re proving a rave success. Invitations to area businesses bring career professionals to campus to share their experiences and advice, and the engagements are fast becoming a well-attended speaking series.

Last month Chase Bank employee Scott Baldwin spoke to the College Concepts class. Highlighting the importance of proper dress and attitude, Scott told students that always representing your company in a professional manner can help employee and employer, alike.

“He was awesome,” said Medical Billing/Coding student Tramaine Council. “The speaker from Chase was very knowledgeable, poised, very well dressed, and he appeared confident and affable.”

Legal Secretary student Michael Perkins agreed.

“His ability to show and broadcast himself was very well thought out, from how he presented himself and spoke,” said Michael.

Michael said that Scott explained the importance of presenting yourself in a professional manner and he gave the students tips about going above and beyond for your employer and how it could make you stand out.

According to Business Instructor Byron Aldrink, the speakers provide excellent reinforcement to the lessons he teaches in class.

“Sometimes it helps when the students hear it from someone outside of class,” said Bryon. “In Scott’s case, he was proof of how dressing and acting in a professional manner can lead to success. He told the story of attending a conference in San Diego and how he was snapped right up for a job opportunity.”

Byron noted that speakers like Scott serve as real world examples of what can go right when you have the right training, poise, and confidence. You have to want success and be willing to do what it takes to reach your goals.

“I wanted the speakers to be relevant to what the students are learning. It’s not theoretical; it’s applicable. That’s the message I want them to hear and it really seems to be working,” said Byron. “It’s been an excellent picture of the kind of life stuff that will impact their futures.”
