Giving Back to Give Thanks

food drive at Career Quest Learning Centers

Everyone at Career Quest Learning Centers believes passionately that giving back is an important part of who we are—whether on campus or out in the community. Our recent food drive sponsored by the Student Association and held at the Jackson campus was one small way for us to contribute to the community. And it was a great success. Volunteers helped to collect hundreds of items that were then given to the Salvation Army in Jackson so that the organization could better serve those in need.

“The Student Association did a great job of organizing and running this event,” says Campus Manager Mollie Woodworth. “It’s important to give back, and especially around the holidays we want to make sure people have the food they need.”

Career Quest has other benefits planned for the season. In addition to the food drive, the school is currently collecting “gently used clothes and toys,” according to Mollie. The campaign underway now, runs through December 18th. Donations can be dropped off at our Jackson campus. If you’re not sure what to contribute, give us a call at 877-365-8144 and we can make some suggestions.

“We will also have our annual Angel Tree,” says Mollie.

The Angel Tree is about helping the community right here at Career Quest. Students who might not be able to provide for their own children in the way they want write a short 500 word essay explaining a bit about what’s making the season so difficult. Selected students then become the focus of gift-giving. Career Quest faculty and staff, and students who are able, buy gifts appropriate to a specific family. The purchases are given to the students, unwrapped, so they can then give the gifts to their children.

Mollie says that it’s pretty rewarding to be able to help people you actually know, the hard-working students at Career Quest who are attending school to make better lives for them and their families.

“Really it’s a small way we can give back,” says Mollie, “and we’re happy to do it.”

SUCCESS STORY

“I tried community college and it was not for me; I was just overwhelmed. I learn better in small groups. At Career Quest, it was almost like a family. Everyone’s willing to help one another and the teachers are awesome. I’ll be sad to leave!”
