It takes a lot of hard work, positivity and energy to work in a child care profession, but it can be extremely rewarding. If you love children, you could build a career as a Child Care Assistant. Here’s what you should know about becoming a Child Care Assistant:
What is a Child Care Assistant?
As a Child Care Assistant, you’ll care for kids in a daycare or school setting or when parental figures or other family members aren’t available. You will be responsible for a child’s basic needs like bathing and feeding, and also developmental-specific needs. In a childcare center or school, you’ll help out teachers, staff, and program directors. If you work in someone’s home, you may be the primary caregiver, taking on many parental responsibilities.
What You’ll Do
You’ll probably work with infants, toddlers, and young children. Whether you work at a preschool, daycare, or in a private home, your day will be centered on the wellbeing of the children you work with. That could be anything from changing diapers and preparing healthy snacks to planning activities and playing educational games. You’ll need to maintain schedules that could include play time, nap time, and meal time. Beyond those important basics, you will also be a supportive figure. You’ll need to give the children in your care lots of positive encouragement. You’ll also need to watch for signs of emotional and developmental problems to bring to the attention of your supervisor. Your job is to protect and care for children. What an amazing opportunity to help them reach their potential!
How Can You Become a Child Care Assistant?
Because most schools have very specific requirements about who gets to work with kids, you’ll want to be well-prepared. At Career Quest Learning Centers, we now offer a Child Care Assistant program that you can complete in less than a year. It will introduce you to the foundations of early childhood, growth, and development. You’ll also learn about curriculum and instruction and important rules about health, safety, and proper nutrition. Through hands-on instruction, we’ll teach you what you need to know to be a compassionate and effective caregiver. Most importantly, you’ll get real-world experience in our on-campus daycare center during your internship. Even before you go on your first job interview, you’ll have experience!
The Child Care Assistant program is currently only available at the Jackson campus. If you’re interested in learning more, give us a call at 517-990-9595. Wouldn’t you love a career you could love?
