It’s a holiday we can all embrace: March 4th is Hug a G.I. Day! First observed in 1996 as a way to honor those who serve in the United States Armed Forces, the date is especially fitting because “march forth” is also a military command.
Here’s how you can celebrate by showing your appreciation for military members and the sacrifices they make:
Hug a G.I.
Just as the holiday implies, the simplest way to honor this special day is to give a G.I. a hug. A hug is an easy way to show a person you care, and it will also help you show your appreciation for the servicemen and servicewomen in your life. If you know someone who is currently serving, you can send them a virtual hug by phone, email, or through social media.
Send a Care Package
If distance prevents you from giving a G.I. a hug in person, you can also send a care package to someone currently serving. There are many practical items that service members often request such as toiletries, which you can combine with other enjoyable items like playing cards and snacks. If you don’t know anyone personally, there are nonprofits such as Operation Gratitude that can help you to send a care package to a soldier in need on your behalf.
At Career Quest Learning Centers, we are proud to honor the military men and women who risk their lives so we can enjoy our freedom. Our flexible learning programs provide students with the opportunity to gain postsecondary education in practical fields. We also provide discounts to active duty military members and veterans as well as their spouses. You could receive up to 25 percent off your tuition. Just provide proof of your current service or honorable discharge papers (valid DD214). If you are the spouse of a military member, provide your valid military ID card.
You’ve served your country, now you can better yourself by going back to school. We have a wide variety of programs designed to help you prepare for an entry-level career in such fields as Business, Healthcare, Information Technology, and Child Care. Sign up for a campus tour at any one of our four locations throughout Michigan. And from all of us here at Career Quest Learning Centers, thank you!
