Desktop Support Technician
As a Desktop Support Technician in a company, you would be the first person that employees call when their desktop computer isn’t working properly. But you might also need to connect them to new hardware, like printers and scanners. You’d also be the go-to person for:

Computer Repair Technician
Computer Repair Technicians are responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of computer equipment and servers. Common duties include addressing viruses, replacing computer hardware, and repairing routers. You might work on-site for a company, remotely where clients can drop off their equipment, or at a computer repair shop. Those Apple geniuses you may have interacted with at the big computer stores aren’t really geniuses, at all. They’re computer repair techs!
In your role as a Network Administrator, you would maintain a computer network and address any issues that may arise within it. Instead of just concentrating on individual computers, you would oversee how the computers in a company connect and work together. Your main responsibilities would include installing networks, building new computer systems, and determining how a network’s performance can improve. Network Administrators typically work for large companies including healthcare facilities, educational institutions, governmental agencies, financial companies, and retail settings.
Help Desk Support Technician
As a Help Desk Support Technician, you would provide technical assistance to computer users by responding to service requests often submitted by phone or email. Instead of fixing the issue outright, you would guide users on how they can fix the issue themselves. You must be able to provide clear instructions to customers on how to use software and how to resolve basic computer issues. This role requires knowledge, great communication skills, and a lot of patience! Not everyone is as knowledgeable as you are about computers. You might find this kind of work at a large company in the software industry, at a company that relies on complex software such as a healthcare setting, at a customer support consulting service, or in a call center.
