5 Ways to Boost Your Career Confidence
Posted: February 13, 2018
If you want a great career, you have to believe you can make it happen. And that means you need to believe in yourself! Here are 5 ways to boost your confidence at your current job and throughout your career.
1) Know Yourself
Know your own strengths and weaknesses. If you totally rock at something, own it! But you also need to acknowledge where you could be lacking. And be aware of your blind spots, so you won’t be thrown off when someone tries to shut down your ideas. Acknowledge areas where you could learn more and improve and you’ll produce better results. It is equally important to know where you thrive. Know your strengths and use them in the workplace to do a great job and build self-confidence.
2) Boost Your Knowledge
If you want to have more confidence, acquire more knowledge! At Career Quest Learning Centers, we offer diploma and degree programs that can help shore up what you already know and teach you even more. But school isn’t the only place you can learn. Team up with a more seasoned employee in work. They can give you insight into the company and let you show them how valuable you might be. Find a mentor and ask for advice. Look for feedback on ideas you have for better products, services, and processes. The more you contribute, the more credibility you’ll have with your co-workers. Let them see that you are open-minded and willing to listen and learn. Pay attention and be a sponge for knowledge. The harder you work, the more successes you’ll be, and the more confident you will become.
3) Look the Part
As you get ready for work in the morning, ask yourself, “Is my outfit sending the right message?” Dressing well, having a good attitude, and just being nice, will give your co-workers the impression that you are confident in your role and allow your confidence to shine through. Body language is also key to confidence in the workplace. A lot of the way we communicate is non-verbal. People can spot a confident person from how they walk into a room. Practice power poses, good posture, and smiling in front of a mirror. This will turn into muscle memory that will help you as you enter the workplace.
4) Ditch the Self Consciousness
The worst confidence-killer is overthinking. How can you be your best self when you are being too self-critical? Copy little kids. They always have such confidence and don’t care about being wrong. Avoid self-worry and bring energy and vibrancy to your workplace.
5) Ask Questions
Of course you don’t know everything! You’re still building your career. A little doubt is okay, but only as long as you’re willing to ask questions. Remember your other co-workers have been in your shoes and have made mistakes along the way. What can you learn from them? Show some initiative and ask questions to prove you’re invested and that you always willing to learn. And don’t let your co-workers intimidate you. If you show complete career confidence, employees in your office will have no choice but to respect you.
