Medical Assistant, Lansing Campus
Tammi Oberlin was a successful business person when she decided she just wasn’t happy in her job and wanted to do something she really loved. She had been in sales and even ran a salon business but she had been putting off a dream. It was time to take up that dream and pursue her goal of working in Healthcare.
Tammi did research on schools and considered three different options, including a local community college and another technical program. She chose Career Quest. One of the reasons she liked the program from the beginning was a feeling that the admissions representative was really interested in her personal goals. She was given options and never felt any pressure to decide.
“My husband and I were looking at buying a new house and it meant I would need to stay in the job I had for at least another year if not more. But that wasn’t what I wanted to be doing and I was unhappy. Fortunately, my husband was very supportive. Together, we decided it was a good time for me to go back to school to be able to do something that I really loved. And now that I’m ready to graduate, I feel that everything was worth it.”
Tammi recently completed her field experience, an externship, by working in the emergency room of a local Lansing Hospital. She says she probably couldn’t have asked for a job with more variety of experience in a short amount of time. Tammi saw everything from bone breaks to drug overdose treatment and even used her CPR skills – twice!
Now that she’s had a taste of the medical field, Tammi says there is no going back. She’s hooked on working in a career she loves.
