Andrea had been working in the healthcare field, a budding industry with a bright outlook. But after twelve years with a company she thought she’d retire from, Andrea suddenly lost her job. This led her to make a decision. “I need to get the paperwork behind the experience.”
Enter Career Quest. “I came in and talked with them. Everyone was super nice and that was really important,” said Andrea. “The students seemed happy, friendly. I signed up right away.” Career Quest’s Medical Administrative Assistant program was a good fit for Andrea, as she was able to build upon her years of experience. “I actually got more out of the program than what I had anticipated. They taught me much more than just how to work in healthcare administration.”
A few weeks after Andrea completed her externship, Career Quest asked to share her resume with a contract company. She said yes, but one month into the five-month contract, Andrea wanted more. “I went in, I laid out my Career Quest portfolio and said, ‘I want a job.’ I had to prove myself, and I did,” Andrea recalled. Although the company did not typically direct hire, they made an exception in Andrea’s case. “I 100% know that I wouldn’t be there if it weren’t for my experience and training at Career Quest.”
Andrea’s advice to future Career Quest students: “Getting an education is important. Even though things aren’t easy, you can do it. And you will do it.”
